Quins Win Mad Anthony's Tournament
The Quins made their last road trip of the season to Edinboro University to take part in the 15th Annual Mad Anthony's Tournament hosted by the Erie Rugby Club. The Quins drew a tough first round opponent in the Pittsburgh Rugby Club; a matchup that most would agree was between the tournaments top two teams. It was a hard fought match that was marred by some questionable officiating. Dave Banta's second half try converted by Nick Koon gave the Quins a much deserved lead. City fought back and scored a late try to come within two, but a missed conversion proved to be the difference with the Quins pulling away with a 7-5 victory.
Next up for the Quins were the hosts Erie. This match saw the Quins debut of a former Erie player, Phil Gallagher, who started at prop. The match was fairly one sided, with the Quins dominating possession and playing solid defense. Ethan Hurley, of the University of Pittsburgh, opened the scoring and the Quins never looked back, cruising to a 21-7 victory.
In the final the Quins would meet Akron, who were coming off a semifinal victory over the South Pittsburgh Hooligans. The Quins used some chicanery in the lineout early in the first half, with Koon scoring two easy tries running off the fringe of a maul. The Quins kept the pressure on and showed some slick ball handling and impressive support play when Zach Schell finished off a great team try. Schell would score once more, and Chuck Mohan touching down late to give the Quins a 29-7 victory.
